Hair, nail clippings, and other parts of the body are often included in magical operations, the most famous of which is the misnamed “voodoo doll.” (The most distinguished nobles and officials of Europe were creating such dolls centuries before the Voudon faith appeared.) The hair in the packet was likely that of the unfortunate chap Sarapion, stolen and secreted within the papyrus to give it an extra charge.
