Humans are susceptible to manipulation and domination by other beings when we do not pay attention. It is easier to blame someone else than take responsibility and manage our thoughts and feelings. Just as daily physical hygiene is important, if thoughts and feelings are not processed and released on a daily basis, the material gets stuffed into the astral body (the subconscious mind).
